BAND BIO

DANNY “B” AND THE RHYTHM AND BLUES ALLSTARS played at the Muddy York every Wednesday for 7 years. The Band members included Canada’s finest musicians: Doug Riley on piano and organ, Bernie LaBarge on guitar, Whitey (Pentti) Glan on drums, Phil Woodard on bass and Danny “B” on vocals and harmonica.

Wednesday night was a mecca for the studio musicians and film and television people to hang and listen to this great band. Doug Riley passed away in August 2007 so the remaining four musicians have decided to go on.

Danny “B” is a veteran blues singer and harmonica player who has played worldwide with the likes of Big Mama Thornton, Lefty Dizz and Big Moose Walker. Danny makes his home in Toronto and is active in the studio scene. I’m sure you’ve heard his voice on many t.v. and radio commercials such as Coca Cola, Esso, Kodak, Becel, etc. etc. He also has a principal role in the movie “Hank & Mike” starring Joe Mantegna and Chris Klein.

Bernie LaBarge was born in Ottawa, Ontario and is a Burlington Central High School alumnus who has played with international stars such as David Clayton Thomas, Tower of Power, John Sebastian, Kim Mitchell, Long John Baldry just to name a few. Click on Bernie LaBarge.com for more info.

Whitey (Pentti) Glan was born in Finland and moved to Canada at a young age. He was the drummer for The Mandala and Bush then moved on to play with Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Bette Midler and many other great stars. The next time you see the movie “The Rose” check out the drummer, yeah, it’s Whitey.

Phil Woodard is a solid bass player as there ever was. As a matter of fact his nickname is “The Rock”. Born in London, England he has played with many R & B bands in the GTA including The Royals, Sweet Blindness, Jane Child and The Tower of Power just to name a few.

This band cannot sound the same without the brilliant piano and organ playing of Doug Riley and he is sorely missed but we feel that he has told us to put it together and do this show. Instead of hiring another piano player we chose to go with Doug’s spirit.
